The New Apple iPad Can Help the Working Mom on the Go!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Melissa_Rubin]Melissa Rubin
With the working mom's life busy enough with getting the kids up for school, packing lunches, getting them on the bus, avoiding traffic on the way to work, being productive at work, catching your daughters dance rehearsal and son's game, cooking dinner and letting the dog out, staying in touch with today's world of technology is not high on the working mom's list. However, the newly released Apple iPad 3g is a form of technology that might be helpful to the working mom.
The new iPad 3g has applications specifically geared for the person on the go like a working mom or single working parent. In case the work life balance has gotten too big out of hand, an application is a widget originally designed for the iPhone. It allows your phone to give you access to games, news, auctions, Wall Street, newspapers, books, quizzes... anything the mind can think of. Most of these applications- or apps- are for entertainment purposes.
However, there are certain apps on the iPad 3g that working moms can use to their advantage.
* The Wall Street Journal application on the iPad 3g allows you to read the newspaper in a format that does not take over the entirety of your kitchen table (or block your neighbor on the metro). Stay up-to-date with current events while on your way to work or while waiting to pick up the kids from day care.
* E*TRADE Mobile Pro allows working moms to keep an eye on your investments at a quick glance. The large screen of iPads makes it easy to read everything.
* The Epicurious App on the iPads gives you access to over 25,000 recipes. Go through it on your lunch break at work or when you get home and are at a loss as to what to cook the kids.
The iPad 3g is a touch screen designed with the same technology used to make the iPhone. The screen is about 9.7 inches diagonal and weighs about 1.5 pounds. Unlike the iPhone, this is not a phone, so don't give up your phone for this. It is an easy and convenient way to experience the web, email, photos and videos.
Keep in mind you will have to find the time to sit down and learn about the features of the iPad 3g, and as working moms that is hard to do. However, if you want to stay connected to the outside world while having fun with your kids and de-stressing, the Apple iPad 3g might be a good fit for you.

GetGray Calibration DVD Review
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kyle_Kolbe]Kyle Kolbe
GetGray is a hobbyist produced home theater calibration DVD. You can only buy it through internet download, as it's a VIDEO_TS folder you burn to a DVD-R. As implied by the title, the DVD's primary purpose is to track your digital display device's underlying gray scale with the aid of a color measuring device like the Colorvision Spyder2 or Gretag Macbeth Eye One Pro.
rel=nofollow [http://www.calibrate.tv/]GetGray has some caveats. First, it can only be used (by itself, without the aid of additional calibration discs like Avia Guide to Home Theater and Digital Video Essentials) with digital displays like LCD, DLP, LCOS, etc. It does not have the proper test screens to evaluate CRT displays (tube TVs and old and/or high-end front projectors) like needle pulse and blooming patterns. Second, since The DVD is an internet download it cannot include any color filters for primary color evaluation. The disc's author assumes you already own a calibration disc with the included filters and even offers a photography supply to buy your own filter. Animated de-interlacing tests are the last big omission (I never like these de-interlacing torture tests, they just reveal your DVD player's short comings, making you feel bad about your investment while your very likely not going to see any of the defects in real entertainment only viewing). (Plus, many times it is the source DVD's fault. Last week we rented curb your enthusiasm and it has massive distracting jaggies in all the backgrounds, I believe a short coming of the source video resolution.) (Despite this aversion to these 3:2-2:2-bad-edit-low-frame-rate-anime-euro-PAL revealing test DVDs, I check the "Special Interest" shelf every time I'm in a video store for the HQV Benchmark DVD.) Oh and no audio evaluations except for a Tron Master Control-like face for lip-synch control.
GetGray's main drive is to create a disc that is easy to navigate when compared to both Avia and DVE (Avia's navigation is adequate but its gray patterns have slight color casts; DVE navigation is terrible: it makes you use the Title button on your DVD remote, torture). Get Gray has two levels of menus: big categories (Brightness and Contrast, Grayscale) and their logical test pattern groups (5% Gray Ramp, 20/80% Gray Windows). Highlight the menu item to drop into the test pattern loop, press Next Chapter and Last Chapter Skip to move within the loop and hit menu to drop back to the main navigation. Simple.
This simplicity allowed me to calibrate my Sanyo PLV-Z3 over and over again until 2:30 in the morning Sunday night (I can't get rid of a green/yellow cast in the 90% and 100% gray windows, I'll be back at it again tonight, I know the correct setting combo for flat grayscale and high contrast is hidden in the projector) with very few button presses on my universal remote. I found the following test signals super useful and convenient:
* 5% Gray Ramp: This test pattern is great for setting your contrast and brightness, just adjust each until the third to last bar from each end blends into the last two bars. This chart will also give you a good idea of what your display device's grayscale controls (like RGB GAin and Offset in the Sanyo Z3) alter.
* 20/80% Gray Windows: Use these high-low gray window loops to quickly adjust the grayscale controls. You'll be flipping between the two often tweaking the grayscale to perfection.
* 10% Gray Windows: After getting your RGB grayscale in the ballpark with the 20/80 windows, sample each 10% increment--from 0-100%--and enter them into AVS Forum member Radar's Colorimeter spread sheet to track your D65 gray target across your 2.2 target gamma.
GetGray includes brief instructions covering each of the included signals plus some advice on calibrating and additional sources for blue filters and supplemental test discs.
Whether you're new or experienced to calibration the following instruction manuals contain great tutorials/overviews of the process for the hobbyist or professional (with or without the software): Accucal [http://www.accucal.org/i1PRODCS%20Docs.htm], rel=nofollow [http://www.smartavtweaks.com/dummies3.html]Smart III, rel=nofollow [http://www.colorvision.com/downloads/manuals/10056-310%20ColorFacts%20Manual2.pdf]Colorfacts 6 (PDF direct download).
If you own a digital front projector and have a Spyder2 or Eye One Pro you should definitely buy GetGray. It costs an affordable $25 which guarantees upgrades to all 1.0 patches (current version is 1.1 NTSC, PAL is in late beta). Show your support for the calibration hobbyist little guy and get an accurate and easy calibration too.
Father, Husband and Geek. My geeky interests have not changed since I was a kid. I still love comic books, anime, role-playing games, console video games, indie rock, imported toys and mecha models, bad American and great British sitcoms, and all the tech that let’s me experience these hobbies to their fullest. Now that I’m married with children, I’ve had to strike a balance between supporting and pleasing my family and feeding my geekery hunger. Lucky for me, my wife is very accomodating and even geeks out with me on occasion (the ladies love Joss Whedon’s "Firefly"). My two year old likes anything that moves on the front projection screen and makes noise, so far she is easy to please. Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro - Making the Best Even Better
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Simon_Drew]Simon Drew
The full QWERTY form factor, be they sliders or Blackberry type candybars, seems to be the de facto standard for serious smartphones pitched to businessmen and executives,.
It's interesting to note that Sony Ericsson smartphones have shied away from such phones with only the Xperia X2 running on Windows as its first ever QWERTY slider. That is about to change this year.
At the recently concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Japanese phone maverick unveiled a couple more - the Xperia X10 Mini Pro in tandem with a touchscreen X10 Mini and the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro to team up with the Vivaz touchscreen unveiled last January. It also looks like Sony is starting a tradition to affix "pro" on similar handsets that it modifies with a sliding QWERTY keyboard half shell
The Vivaz Pro is everything the Vivaz is with the disappointing exception of the imaging function that got watered-down from a gorgeous 8 megapixel resolution in the Vivaz to just 5megapxiels in the Pro. But apart from that, and a slightly wider, heftier and thicker body due to the QWERTY body half, the Vivaz brings the same high end Symbian S60 5th edition smartphone to a market that Sony Ericsson thinks would have looked elsewhere for a tactile side-sliding QWERTY smartphone.
Outstanding Hardware Features
Both Vivaz and its Pro variant use the PowerVR Series 5 SGX graphics engine that the earlier Satio used but clocked at 720 MHz instead of 600 MHz. This allows both to process high definition 720p video recording with video light and continuous autofocus. HD video playback is a bit compromised though with the absence of DivX and Xvid video file codec support, but there's nothing that a downloaded 3rd party app can't solve.
As indicated above, imaging in the Pro is more modest 5 megapixel resolution but you still get the same autofocus and touchfocus camera with LED Flash, face and smile detection and geo-tagging. Your gorgeous images and videos captured on the Vivaz Pro gets displayed on a brilliant 3.2-inch Wide-VGA resistive touchscreen with 16 million colors that gets protected by a scratch-resistant surface. There's the usual gravity accelerometer but a proximity sensor meant to disable touchscreen sensitivity in a call is missing.
Elsewhere on the hardware front, the new Vivaz Pro is your basic 3G smartphone on the dual band UMTS with the HSDPA at 10.2 Mbps and HSUPA at 2 Mbps. It's also your quad band GSM with GPRS/EDGE on 2/2.5G data connectivity. It comes with WiFi 802.11b/g with DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0 for wireless and wired data synching, respectively.
You get a built-in A-GPS and stereo FM receivers, Bluetooth A2DP, 3.5mm headphone jack and TV-out (VGA resolution) ports. The phone memory is 75 MB expandable to 16 GB from its microSD slot and you get a 9 GB microSD card free with the retail kit. Talk time is a remarkable 12.5 hours and standby is 18 days from the same 1200 mAh Lithium-polymer battery powering the earlier Vivaz touchscreen.
Matching Software Features
The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro comes bundled with Google Map 3.0 for its A-GPS receiver and Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation apps. It comes with the SNS apps fro Facebook, Twitter as well as YouTube for online video sharing. There's the usual PDF and Quick Office document viewer, WebKit HTML web browser with Java and Flash video support and the messaging apps like your typical email client and IM support. PlayNow online access to apps, music and games is also supported.

Digital Camera Buying Help - Comparing Canon PowerShot Models
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chris_Campbell]Chris Campbell
As a hardcore amateur photographer, I must admit I fell in love with the Canon cameras and wouldn't switch to anther manufacturer for anything in the world. I noticed I'm not the only one with this fetish, as I visited Disney World I noticed that PowerShots were the most common cameras. So here is my list of favorite Canon cameras. Any of these are excellent choices.
1. SD1100IS
Equipped with a 8MP image sensor, this baby offers great image stabilization, longer zoom level (38-114 mm) and a better design. It comes in colors and can be great gifts.
2. SD870IS
This model is the one for you if you want a wider-angle lens. Except the lack of the viewfinder, making it rather impossible to use in a bright light, you will simply love all its facilities.
3. SD770IS
This is supposed to be an update of the SD1100IS model, costs $50-ish more and doesn't come in colors. Other than longer battery lifetime I couldn't see any difference to its predecessor, hence I rated it lower.
4. SD950IS
With a titanium body and a 12.1 MP sensor, this camera is simply gorgeous. An unique function that comes out of the box is the ability to put together panoramic images. I haven't rated it higher because it is a bit too pricey for the functionalities it offers.
5. SD890IS
This one is the most expensive in the PowerShot ELPH series. It comes with a 10MP sensor and a whopping 5x optical zoom. So if you need a camera with a long zoom lens, then this is definitely the one for you.
6. SD790IS
I like the SD770IS model better than this one. The 790IS comes with 3x zoom lens and 10 megapixel sensor, which is quite normal for a 2009 camera. The downside is the lack of an optical viewfinder. The only thing that makes this camera stand out is perhaps the 3" LCD display.
7. SD1000IS
This model has been replaced by SD1100IS, which is on the very top of my preferences. It doesn't come with image stabilization, which I would consider an important feature. It's quite a nice camera, that's why I put it in this favorites list, but no longer worth buying: if you like it, get its successor!
Getting [http://gooddigitalcameras.com]the perfect Canon camera, is never an easy thing, especially with the way digital technology is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the camera with all the [http://cameraproblems.com]features important to you.
